Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows why.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.

                            Consider this.

When you're writing a script for a film, you're not just typing out some words in an arbitrary sequence of events. You are crafting a world, a little world whose laws are dictated only by you, the writer. You are creating this world to immerse your audience, to make them forget they are just sitting in a room in the *actual* world.

And when you include cheap throwaway gags referencing popular culture or topical subjects, you break that world. The viewer's experience is jarred, and they remember that your film is artificial. And it's hard for them to become reinvested, especially if the film continues to make those references.

I enjoyed "Moana," and it is better than other films that don't know when to stop with topical humor (hell, it's nowhere near the shit show the "Emoji Movie" will undoubtedly be). But still, is it really worth breaking the audience's immersion with one joke that will be dated in only a few years?

I think that I'll like this movie, but, with regards to this clip, I HATE the way that whenever Moana is confused, annoyed, or angry, SHE LOOKS AND SOUNDS JUST LIKE RAPUNZEL! NOOO!

I am ESPECIALLY annoyed when she says "YOU are NOT my HERO...", because she sounds almost EXACTLY like Rapunzel when Rapunzel says things like, "Who ARE you, and how did you FIND me?"

Why does The Disney Company HAVE to do so much facial copying, and so much VOCAL INFLECTION MIMICRY? I can understand that the stupid facial expressions might be copied in order to cut down on animation costs, but, REALLY? Rapunzel and Moana have to make the SAME FACES, utter the SAME SHOCKED GASPS, and SPEAK in the SAME WAY whenever they're perplexed, annoyed, and angry? That smacks of ME watching a RE-HEATED RE-HASH of something ORIGINAL from LOOONG ago, fer SHURR!
